  1. Family Reading Program

    January 21, 2020 - February 23, 2020

    Billings Public Library’s 23rd annual Family Reading Program will begin January 21st. Family Reading is designed to encourage families to develop the habit of reading aloud together. Studies have shown that children who are read aloud to have improved language skills and are more successful in school. During the program families will read together for 20 minutes a day for 20 days. Families completing the program will receive a book and be entered into a drawing for a special grand prize. A Circus Variety Show is scheduled for February 24th at 6:30 to celebrate the end of Family Reading. Register online at or call the Children's Services Desk at 657-8256 for more information.

  1. Continuing the Fight for Women's Rights

    February 14, 2020, 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM @ Community Room

    Kevin Kooistra, Executive Director of the Western Heritage Center will present a history of the women’s suffrage and women’s rights movements. Topics include the story of suffragist Hazel Hunkins Hallinan of Billings who championed women and children’s rights, the history of the League of Women Voters, and various strategies used to create social change.

    The event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters and commemorates the organization's 100th birthday. It is part of the Library's "2020: A Year of Civic Literacy" series. Light refreshments will be served.

    Hazel Hunkins Hallinan, a Billings High School graduate in 1908, was a pivotal member of the National Woman’s Party and a campaigner for women’s suffrage. Her efforts resulted in several arrests, attacks in the press, and assaults by angry mobs.

  2. COG Kit Open House

    Come and learn about a great new resource at BPL. COG Kits (short for Cognitive Kits) are full of books, games and other activities for caregivers to use with people who have Alzheimer’s and other dementias. This is a great opportunity to see what the kits contain and get on the waiting list to check one out for yourself.
    BPL COG Kits have been generously funded by grants from the Friends of the Billings Public Library and the Montana Geriatric Education Center.

    The TECH Lab is the library's digital learning lab that's just for teens. Come to the lab to learn about 3D printing, use our audiobooth to record and mix music, build and program some robots, and much more! Teens can also come to hang out and be social, as we have lots of board games and gaming consoles. Plus, it's all free!
