1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Do you have a child not yet in kindergarten? Sign up today and foster a love of reading at an early age. Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are all encouraged to participate.

Family Reading Program

January 21st - February 23rd

Billings Public Library’s 23rd annual Family Reading Program will begin January 21st.  Family Reading is designed to encourage families to develop the habit of reading aloud together. Studies have shown that children who are read aloud to have improved language skills and are more successful in school. During the program families will read together for 20 minutes a day for 20 days. Families completing the program will receive a book, coupons from Bricks & Minifigs and Taco Johns as supplies last, and will be entered into a drawing for a special grand prize. Family Reading is sponsored by Bricks & Minifigs and Taco Johns.

A Circus Variety Show is scheduled for February 24th at 6:30 to celebrate the end of Family Reading. Stay tuned for more details.

Billings Symphony Orchestra presents Adventures in Music Day

Saturday, January 25th

1st Floor of Library

9:00 am - 11:30 am

  • Join the Billings Symphony Orchestra at Billings Public Library for the annual “Adventures in Music Day – Flat Stanley”!

  • Come and test out a trombone, beat on a drum or pluck a bass. This event is FREE and will be all over the first floor of the Billings Public Library.

  • When you come in, get your passport which will help direct you to Percussion Plaza, Brass Boulevard, String Street and Woodwind Way!

  • At 12pm, the performance of Symphony Flat Stanley will be presented at the Lincoln Center. Thanks to Eckroth Music, Hansen Music, Kirk’s House of Music and Galt String Gallery for making this day possible.

Kids in the Kitchen: Snowperson Snacks

  • Calling all kid foodies! Join in as we learn about the food pyramid and how to be safe in the kitchen.

  • After a quick lesson kids will get the opportunity to make fun, no bake, healthy snacks they can enjoy during the winter season.

Embroidery 101 with Fran

Tuesday, January 28th

2nd Floor Large Conference Room

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

  • This beginning class will introduce children (ages 9-12) to embroidery stitches. 

  • We will cover the basic stitches and make a book mark. Children will make their own designs.

  • All necessary supplies will be provided.

R.E.A.D. to a Dog  

Saturday, February 1st

Story Tower

11am - Noon

  • Each reader will have the chance to read to one dog
  • All children who are readers are welcome
  • Registration is the day of the program at the Children's desk

Family Make and Take Valentine Craft

Monday, February 10th

Craft Corner 

3:00 pm - 4:45 pm

  • Share the love! Make some Valentine cards for your friends and family!

  • Program takes place in the Craft Corner. Clean up begins at 4:45.

  • All children are welcome; no registration required. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult for supervision. Please limit two cards per participant.

Kids in the Kitchen: Cookie Decorating

Tuesday, February 4th

  • Learn how to decorate cookies just in time for Valentine’s Day.
  • Stompin’ Grounds, the café in the Library, will be showing children and their families a few simple tips to add love to your cookies.
  • Registration is limited, call 657-8256 or stop by the Children’s desk to reserve your spot.

Valentine’s Day Yoga Story Time

Thursday, February 13th

  • Open your heart! Join us for a Valentine’s Day-themed Yoga Story Time.

  • BYOM (Bring your own mat), but mats are also available to borrow.

  • No registration required, just show up on time.

  • Yoga Story Time is facilitated by a certified yoga instructor.
